August Book Review Continued
 August 2003 Book Review:
From Elephants To Eskimos Teacher's Edition
A Section of:  UNIT Four and Five

Roland Rabbit of Snowbunny Hill

What color do you think the dress was after Geraldine washed out
the ice cream?  Find the color.  Look for directions at the top of the
next page.

Take a piece of white paper.  Next take a red crayon and make a red
ball.  Then take a blue crayon and color over the red ball.

What color did you make when you mixed red and blue?  This was
also the color of Geraldine's dress.

Now Geraldine, the little girl who always wanted things to be different,
was very sad again.  She did not like her new dress.  She wished very,
very much that it could be another color.

Geraldine's mother did not like the color of the purple dress.  She
washed the dress in cold water.  Geraldine had a white dress again.

THE NEW RED AND YELLOW DRESS

The little girl had another idea.  She squeezed the yellow color from
some yellow dandelions.  And she squeezed the red color from some
red tulips.

She used the yellow to color the ribbons and the pockets.  She made
the rest of the dress red.

As soon as the dress was dry, Geraldine put it on.  The she ran to the
pond to see the ducks.

All at once a big old frog jumped into the pond.  The frog splashed water
all over the little girl.

Then what do you think happened?  The water made the yellow color
run into the red color and the red color run into the yellow.   The two
colors were all mixed up.

When Geraldine looked at her dress, she started to cry.
Do you know why?  It was because her dress was not yellow and red anymore.

What color do you think the dress was after the frog splashed it?
Find the color.  Read the directions at the bottom of this page.

Take a piece of white paper.  Next take a red crayon and make a red
ball.  Then take a yellow crayon and color over the red ball.

What color did you make when you mixed red and yellow?
This color was also the color of Geraldine's dress.

Now Geraldine was very sad again.  She did not like her orange dress.
She wished very, very much that it could be a different color.

Geraldine's mother did not like the color of the orange dress.
So she washed the dress in cold water.  Geraldine had a white dress
again.

As Geraldine went to sleep, she looked at her dress.
She thought about all the colors that the white dress had been.
First it had been blue and yellow.  But the rain had made it green.

Next the dress had been red and blue.
But the hot water had mixed up the red and blue colors, and the dress
had become purple.

Then Geraldine had made the dress red and yellow.
But the frog had splashed water on the dress, and it had become an
orange dress.

After Geraldine woke up, she made her bed.  Then she looked at her
new dress and said to herself,  "I think I like this color the best.  I do
not want the white dress to be different after all.  I want the dress just
the way it is."

That night Geraldine liked the dinner that her mother made.   After
dinner she sat outside in the garden with her mother and daddy.  The
air was warm, and Geraldine was happy  that it was warm.

Geraldine was happy to have things just as they were.
She did not want anything to be different.
