As the photographs were being added to the site, to shorten download
time, I decided to do additional pages for viewing of Diamond Eye and
Sapphire Ladys Babies. To view just click the links above, or at the
end of the photographs.
The babies were born August 16, 2004 starting at about 6:00 pm and
finishing at around 8:00 pm. Saffy is a fine little mother, and doing
well. The babies are adorable and growing each day. I am including a
few photos and will add more as they continue to grow and develope
into young little puppies. Diamond Eye is a proud father, and trying
to accept all the attention that Saffy is now getting and of course
needing at present. Saffy being a little mother now is doing what she
is suppose to do, and not to very interested in Diamond at this time.!
No more playing around with Diamond, she is too busy tending to his
two little boys and one little girl.
We are proud of Saffy, to be as pampered and babied as she has been
since bringing her into our home, she has adapted to motherhood
quite well, even though at times she still needs that cuddling time
with us, she immediately goes to her babies when they whimper or
cry out.
Diamond Duke at 4 weeks old. He is perky, and a joy to watch
playing with his sister Shortcake and brother Little Diamond.
Diamond Duke comes to me as does Shortcake as soon as I
call to them. Little Diamond hesitates a little but is learning.
Diamond Duke again, this is so cute of him I just couldn't resist
placing the picture here for you to view.
Little Diamond below, has a black shape diamond in the very
center of the top of his head, just like his daddy, Diamond Eye.!
Little Diamond, again, below, sweet as can be.
Shortcake, a darling for sure, is my husbands favorite. She
has such loving little ways, just like Diamond Eye. My
husband thinks Shortcake looks more like her daddy than
the others.
Shortcake again, below, isn't she a pretty one.!
![]() In the photograph below, Saffy is relaxing close to the babies,
Diamond Eye is playing with the stuff toy, since the babies
are asleep and not playing with him. Diamond Eye is a playful
little guy, and has amazed me at how gentle and loving he is
when he plays with his babies. It is something to watch.
![]() Diamond Eye is having an enjoyable time playing with all three
of his babies. Little Diamond is above Diamond Eye's head on
the pillow, Shortcake is at Diamond Eye's face, and Diamond
Duke is at the tail of Diamond Eye checking out the stuff toy.
The babies are 4 weeks old, and eating tiny amounts of a special
mix of food, a couple of times a day, as well as still nursing their
mother. Diamond Eye has been given the approval from Saffy
to be close to the babies, play with them, and I guess Saffy does
enjoy the break while Daddy does a little of the caring of the
babies. Even though our Diamond Eye is gentle and loving with
the babies, we watch as they are together, making sure that no
mistakes are made. But I think Diamond Eye would care for
them as he did Saffy when we first brought her home. The only
concern we have is when Saffy and Diamond are playing around
the babies, as they get a little excited and might would step on
the babies while their playing with each other.
Diamond Eye is playing with Shortcake, and Diamond Duke, while
Little Diamond is asleep. Diamond Eye is ever so cautious while
playing with Shortcake, he seems to know she is the little girl, and
the little one of the three. Shortcake has been all over Diamond
Eye's face, nipping his ear, chewing his lip, loving his neck, and
nipping his feet and legs. Diamond eye just simply lays still and
gives them sugar as they play. What a wonder and joy to watch
them together. And I have read that male dogs have no sense of
fatherhood. Not with our Diamond Eye..! He is a "Daddy" and
knows it as well as shows it to these babies.
Shortcake is posing pretty for me. She is 10 weeks old in the
photograph. This is the best photograph so far that we have
captured of her. Her very dark features on her face makes it
hard to capture her pretty eyes unless we use a light color to
bring that out in the picture. She looks lovely in pink..!
Shortcake about the same age as above.
Shortcake at 4 months old, the below is Christmas Eve, 2004
and Shortcake is dressed for the Christmas Eve Party! She
looks good in blue, but her colors are more yellow and pink.
Shortcake says Merry Christmas to all from Diamond Eye
and Sapphire Lady's little family.
Again Shortcake dressed for our Christmas Party, 2004.
She was happier with the blue dress above, as you can tell by her
expression below!
Sapphire Lady, and my husband Dale. Saffy does not like to be
dressed up. She is beautiful and even more so now that she is
a little mother. She is my baby..!
Little Diamond, 4 months old. He is the most sensitive of the
three, alot like his daddy, Diamond Eye in alot of ways.
Little Diamond again below. He always has that sad little expression,
reminds me of his mom! HIs bark is something to hear. We enjoy
listening to him when he does, it always makes us laugh.
Little Diamond below, at 4 months.
Diamond Duke on the left, Little Diamond standing on the right,
and Saffy in the middle, she is peeking over the door we have to
keep the little ones out of my computer room!
Diamond Duke, my little guy! He is so adorable, and other than
growing as he should, he still looks like the tiny little guy he was
when he was first born. The boys have grown as big as Saffy now,
and will probably be as big as their daddy Diamond Eye. Shortcake
is still small, although she too is growing, but I don't think
Shortcake will get even as big as her mother.
Shortcake is very much like her mother in nature and actions! How
we love these little darlings. They are so good, especially considering
the whole group. The mama and daddy keep more so busy than the
little ones. Of course we do have a fenced in yard, and can allow them
some freedom to run off their energy. But they also do alot of playing
in the house and its cute to watch.
They are almost completely house trained, they use their litter boxes
when in the sunroom, and of course prefer to go outside when we allow
them in the main rooms of our house each day. There has been boo
boo's but it was more our fault than theirs. They are just about finished
with their shots, and the vet says they are each a healthy puppy. We
are suppose to feed them the puppy food until they reach a year old.
This little liter of pups, which are fast growing up, are sweet as can be
and really no problem to handle, they do get excited when visitors
arrive, and or family, and that tends to be somewhat trying, as we
usually have to place them in their rooms till they calm down. But
they are still babies yet, and have a lot to learn, as we do..!
Shortcake in front with her daddy Diamond Eye and Diamond Duke
with Little Diamond in back.
All of them wanting to come into my computer room with me! I
only allow Saffy and Diamond, and our cat Misty in the computer
room, the little ones tend to chew thru cords! Actually cords,
wood furniture legs, and whatever they find if not watched
carefully. Forget the $60 dong toys we got them just for playing
and chewing, they would rather have an old shoe, or good one for
that matter, socks, washcloths an fringe on my throws....But we
knew that they would go thru that stage for sure. Each have their
own dong toy, and rope with a dong, we had to purchase 5, and could
have got by with one, as they would prefer to get what the other has!
Shortcake gives her daddy a time, trying to take anything he gets and
Diamond Eye, although at times he gets very put out with her over it,
most times takes it quite well. We have had to get onto him for being
a little too upset with her but he has not tried to hurt any of them.
Diamond Eye the daddy, our first, well we have to give him special
loving each day, for he expects and demands it from us.!
We will try and post more pictures as the babies get older. Thank
you for viewing our little family of Jack Russell's and we invite you
back often to see what we add in the future.
A very tough decision was made by my husband and me. It was so
hard to do, as we feel this is a cruel thing to do to a animal, especially ours!, and we didn't actually want to do it, but since we also didn't
want to chance our little Saffy mating again within the next 4 weeks,
we decided to go ahead and have our Beautiful precious Diamond Eye
nutured. We are watching him closely as this is the second day of his
operation, and must be kept from jumping and running for the next
few days. He seems to be doing fine, and we want that to continue
for him. Diamond just had his 3rd birthday this month.
We will be getting Saffy spayed in the next few months, hoping to give
her some time to recoupe from having the babies, and she has at least
three weeks to go before they are weaned. We are not breeders, and
have accomplished our desire to obtain a mate for our Diamond, and
get a boy from him and Saffy.
Our Diamond Eye and Sapphire Lady will not be having more babies,
and the three babies that we have of their mating will be Diamond and
Saffy's only children. We do not know as yet if we will be keeping all
three of these lovely babies, or just one of the boys. That is another
very hard decision we will be making in the next few weeks.
I will post more pictures in the next few weeks, as our little darlings
continue to grow.
